How to Clean Your Lash Extensions

The importance of keeping your lash extensions clean cannot be stressed enough.

I often hear, "But I don't want to get them wet, I'm afraid they'll all fall out!"

This is the farthest thing from the truth, and quite the opposite will happen actually.

Oil is the kryptonite to lash extensions, as I'm sure your lash stylist has informed you.

Even if you do not wear eye or face makeup, you do secrete a natural form of oil, called sebum.

The fact is, if you AREN'T cleaning your lash extension, they will end up falling out sooner anyway!

Many people don't know this, but we have microscopic parasites that live happily and harmoniously on our lashes called Demodex Folliculorum.

However, with poor lash health comes an infestation of these harmless guys, and an increased likelihood that your lashes will fall out prematurely.

You can see residual eyeliner and eye shadow fall out on these lashes. These are NOT clean lashes. This is what we aim to remove in the cleaning process.

When you constantly neglect your lash extensions you heighten the probability for developing sensitivities or allergic reactions.

Once you develop an allergy to eyelash adhesive, there's no going back.

Your affair with lash extensions will be over forever.

Is that something you really want?

I didn't think so.

You want to be cleaning your lash extensions AT LEAST 2-3 times a week to ensure you are removing your bodies natural oil from the lashes.

Any oil free makeup remover will suffice.

You can also use baby shampoo and distilled water as a solution. (Available for purchase at my salon!)

At the very MINIMUM, you should be rinsing your lashes with water and giving them a gentle brush (but not when wet) DAILY.

Steps to Cleaning Lash Extensions

1. Rinse with warm water DAILY

2. AT LEAST 2-3 times a week, wash thoroughly with an oil free makeup remover, or lash shampoo.

Wet lashes, massage in remover with clean hands or lash cleansing brush, rinse thoroughly.

3. Pat dry with a lint free cloth.

4. OPTIONAL: Use your handy blow dryer to save time. Use the minimum cool setting.

(Be careful not to position too closely to the lashes - we don't want to burn our eyeballs out or overheat the lashes)

5. Comb through dry lashes to set in place. (Click here to check out my video on how to brush lash extensions)

6. Love your lashes!
